| Pilot is my joy. she's the girl with a curl(y) tail up top on Once Upon A Time and peeking through a screen door on Woof. the light of my life. often where i go she follows but every morning, the day starts with going where i think she'd like to follow, and lead. have you noticed that on most off-leash walks dogs usually follow on the way in but on the way back, they lead and at twice the speed? once confident about the surroundings, they'll leave you in the dust while they get the chance to sniff behind that bush they missed, go even farther down the creek bank cuz you're not there yet, investigate the tunnel we walked by before. the walk in was just surveying the territory, the walk back is for dog business. Pi's no longer able to hike for an hour or two, her right front elbow has arthritis. she's in super duper shape for a 10 year old but she has a permanent limp now. not that it stops her from running after bunnies, chasing squirrels or dashing to and from the front yard gate all day long. but the days of zoomies for the pure joy of it are few and far between. so these days, 'my joy' takes joy in the getting out (getting through that gate is awfully exciting), the going and all the gopher hunting, creek wading and exploring that comes with it; sprinting not required. |

kathleen helmerBallot measure Yes on Prop 2 (confinement of chickens, pigs & veal calves) changed my life. Much of what you see on My Story Tails comes from that change. The People Have Spoken: YES! on Prop 2 - http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2008/11/prop2-victory.html
