The Los Angeles city shelter system, LAAS, is broken. Shelter animals are killed by the thousands. So on June 28th & July 12th animal advocates took their outrage to the street and demonstrated on the sidewalks around Mayor Garcetti's private residence. Michael Bell & Paul Darrigo organized and front liners showed up to demand that the General Mgr. of LAAS, Brenda Barnett, be fired. Five years of mismanagement, of failing the animals entrusted to her oversight, failing taxpayers and failing all those who volunteer their time to help shelters in crisis have lead to a movement for improvement. The voiceless suffering in cages can't speak for themselves - I was proud to be one of many voices chanting Shelter Lives Matter.
