And it was. Pizza. New York City kind of good. Pizza that's like NYC pizza isn't what you often get in LaLaLand. We found it in Silver Lake, Elio's Wood Fire Pizza. |
So there we were, standing at a parking lot on Sunset Boulevard on a chilly (see your breath kind of chilly) January night. Just like at a New York City deli, we clutched our ticket and waited to hear #49 called out. But it felt like we were experiencing something uniquely LA. Is there another city that turns out a gem of a pizza from a wood-fire oven in the back of a pick up truck? I savored rubbing elbows with a small crowd of strangers vibrating with anticipation on the sidewalk between a recycling center and a liquor store. It was around 10pm, it got cold, and still, it was a great place to be on a wintery Saturday night. Nothing fancy: cash only, tent, folding tables and chairs, take-out boxes and that's what made it special. The hot thin and crusty inside made it delicious. Eyeing pies in the wood burning oven, watching how many boxes a customer could stack up in a single order, marveling at the professionalism operating street side. 2020 looks to be worth savoring. kathleen helmerBallot measure Yes on Prop 2 (confinement of chickens, pigs & veal calves) changed my life. Much of what you see on My Story Tails comes from that change. The People Have Spoken: YES! on Prop 2 - http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2008/11/prop2-victory.html
