10:45 Friday night, the phone rings. Any call after 8pm-ish is a soft-startle. Hoping it's not something dire, I pick up. Someone I don't know well, got a call from someone she doesn't know well. |
A young woman in East LA, Monica, standing with another good Samaritan, Daniel, holding a shaking, fuzzy little thing they wrapped in a blanket. They managed to get the pup out of traffic, off the street and started calling for help. Now what? | The pup can't go home with Monica, what to do? Where to go? It's late, she's in a scarey place, on the verge of tears. A rescuer would know what to do. I am not a rescuer. I couldn't come up with a vet office or foster for the night. |
But I've become an good bridge to rescue so by morning this filthy, neglected jewel with matted fur, was on her way to a better life. She was handed over to North Central (giving her owners a chance to find her), and christened Pearl. Plans were made for www.ghettorescue.org to claim this woolly moppet when her 'stray hold' was up. |
The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild. This Pearl was found on the loose in the urban wilderness and is perfect in her way, a natural beauty. It's said that pearls attract good luck, which must be true because East L.A.-Pearl drew attention from Monica & Daniel, Josie, me and a solid rescue (GRFF) which will find her a family that will value her for the precious gem that she is. |
